STONY BROOK ATHLETICS

The University at Stony Brook has upgraded its intercollegiate athletic program from the current NCAA Division II level to NCAA Division I status, effective in the 1999-2000 academic year. As such, Stony Brook has upgraded its 19 varsity athletic programs in compliance with NCAA Division I regulations.

The 1999-2000 Seawolves will compete as Independents, for both Men's and Women's Basketball - i.e., they will have no Conference affiliation.

Stony Brook offers 10 men's varsity sports:

Stony Brook offers 9 women's varsity sports:

Of the 19 varsity programs, the Women's Soccer and Men's Lacrosse teams have already competed at the NCAA Division I level, and have done so since the 1988-89 academic year. Effective in the 1999-2000 campaign, the football program will compete at the NCAA Division I-AA (non-scholarship) level.
