Poker Law - The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA)

NOTE: The information presented on this website is intended for entertainment purposes only. Please check your local, state federal, and provincial laws before you gamble online. If any of these laws prohibit online gambling in your jurisdiction, then we strongly recommend that you consider an alternative form of entertainment.

TO COMPLY WITH NEW U.S. LEGISLATION, ALL HYPERLINKS TO ANY POKER SITES OR ONLINE GAMBLING SITES, HAVE BEEN DISABLED, FOR THOSE JURISDICTIONS.

On October 13th, 2006, US President George Bush signed a law (that was an embedded piece of legislation attached to a Ports Security Bill), which prohibits online gamblers from using credit cards, checks, and electronic-fund transfers to place and settle online gambling bets. The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) does not make the act of gambling online illegal; however, it makes that act of fund transferring to an online gambling institution illegal. Although the jury is still out on how this law will actually get implemented by the banking industry, the full law can be read at the following link (starting on page 213):
